Take Me On The Floor

YAY!  I DID IT!!  I passed my workshop final with a 97!  WHOOO HOOOO!

So, what does this mean, you may be wondering….

I’m now into Rehearsal / Performance floor rotation.  What this means is that I now have the ability to take REAL clients on the performance floor instead of working solely on my mannekin!  YAY.  I’m able to take clients Monday through Thursday from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, and I’ll have my Rehearsal classroom time from 8:30-5 on Saturdays.  I’m SO ok with that, because that means I’m officially getting to track out STAR Rewards!  YAYAYAYAYAYAYA

I’m just a little bit excited, can you tell?

As soon as I posted I had passed and was in the computer, my bestest friend Ali called up to Regency & book my first official appointment.  It was awesome that I had a booking within 5 minutes of being in the computer 🙂

Monday was my first “official” day “on the floor” as we like to call it – haha.  Ali’s boyfriend Craig came in as a walk-in and let me give him a new do.  He liked it & Ali was very happy with it too, so it made me super happy!

During downtime, when we don’t have clients, we do mannekin work.  So, I’ve been knocking out a lot of blocks on my project sheet too – kind of like, work-at-you-own-pace as long as you stay busy.  I’m LOVING this!

Yesterday, we had a family of walk-ins.  A man & wife and their two boys, ages 2 & 5.  Lucky me, the computer randomly selected me to do the man’s haircut and the other two girls got the kids.

When we have walk-ins, there isn’t a “rotation” so to speak.  The computer generates who will be the lucky stylist to get the client based on availability.

The man’s wife said his haircut was the best haircut he’s gotten since they’ve been coming to Regency AND they tipped each of us, which is always a good thing.

Tonight, one of the ladies that works in my building is going to keep me hopping.  She just called and scheduled herself a full night of pampering with me – manicure, pedicure, cut, color & two-tone highlights.  FUN FUN FUN!

I’m excited about doing her hair because she & all of the girls in her office go to the same stylist, so if I can win her over, they will all start coming to me! YAY for building client base!

I know there aren’t any pictures in this post, but i’ve been super duper busy & haven’t had a chance to actually take any.  I AM going to take some of my client tonight for before/after so look for that in the next installment.

Tomorrow I have Ali coming in (my first official pre-booked appointment) for a cut & style, so I’ll take some shots of her too!

OH!  AND tomorrow is the first Student Council meeting.  How fun is that?  I get to unveil our newsletter and talk about our fundraising ideas 🙂  I’ll update you all ASAP!

If you’re a hairstylist – let me know what you felt when you had your first big appointment!  I’m curious to see if the nervousness/excitement I feel is normal…lol.

I’ve Got You, Under My Skin…

So this week is wrapping up the “Skin” section of our Workshop experience.  Wednesday (tomorrow – YIKES) I perform my skin & nails practical, which will basically consist of a facial & a manicure on a live model.  My friend Darling Nikki will be subjected to this grueling torture :roll eyes here:.  Thursday I will take the written portion of the Skin & Nails chapters… and then… on Saturday…

I TAKE MY FINAL WRITTEN WORKSHOP TEST!!!

After I pass that (which, come on, we all know I will…now, only if i could convince my brain to work) I will have my “Intro” to the Performance Floor.  YAY!  I’m super duper excited/nervous/scared/hopeful!

Ok, let me backtrack and fill you all in.  So during the Skin portion, you learn about the facials, prepping the room for facials, performing facials, and thanks to my wackadoo skin, what to do in case of an allergic reaction.  Yeah, it wasn’t pretty.  Evidently BioElements Clay Masque hates my face.  it made me sad.  No I didn’t take pictures of it. BUT, I did take pictures of   some of the other students and with a little help from Ms. Samantha, we scored these awesome shots of Brittney sporting the headband used by guests prior to receiving a facial :

Brittney is SO Pimp Right Now…

And here is Brittney giving me a facial about 10 seconds before we decided it really needed to come off.  It was  “most relaxing” 3 minutes ever, i swear…lol… until it started to burn.

Don’t I look Relaxed?

This stupid masque left my face SO red, it looked like i had a sunburn!

Mr. Maurice

And this is our instructor, we were having a deep conversation about salons in Las Vegas / Hollywood during break, which is why Samantha was able to get the shot – See how attentive i look? lol.

Another perk of the Skin chapter is MAKEUP!  Though I do have to say the way the book says to put on makeup is a bit out of whack – for example, it suggests putting eyeliner on BEFORE eyeshadow, which may make sense to someone, but not to me at all.  However, I have gotten to bring my giant makeup kit & do makeup on almost all of the students – see below for some examples:

It’s ME!

There are more, I just haven’t uploaded them yet.

This is starting to feel kind of long, but I haven’t finished yet!  Just hang in there!  On Monday, (Yesterday) I took a little side trip to my local Armstrong & McCall’s store for a color class by CHI®

CHI CLASS

Our Demonstrator was Ms. Ashley Wood & she showed us quite a few new products from Farouk/CHI like their Seven Natural Wonders of Oils – and I’m TRYING to find a link to them but they are super new  Here they are .  Anywho, she gave us a quick run down of what each was & what it is used for.  Then she showed us some new highlighting/foiling techniques using triangular, crescent, and V shaped sections instead of the traditional square/rectangle sectionings.  I was pleased overall.  She showed us their new line of INFRA Highlight colors, both the semi-permanent and the demi-permanent.  And we got a nifty goodie bag that had some samples & magazine, and most importantly, a CHI color chart – YAY!

The next time I’ll have a chance to update will be this weekend which will be after i am officially ON THE PERFORMANCE FLOOR and into REHEARSAL!

“Tough as Nails” ain’t so Tough After All

You guessed it!  We’re in the Nails section – WHOOO HOOO.

1st nail is Sculptured, last 3 are tips & acrylic

Manicures, Pedicures, Acrylics, Sculptured, French Tips…oh, we’re doing it all!

Tried to get a better pic, doesn't look like it worked...

Loved doing the mani/pedi stuff too.  GO figure.   Feet don’t bother me, but some of the students just don’t care for it.  We’ve been practicing on each other, of course, so our hands and feet are all well taken care of now.  Well, except mine.  I don’t mind doing someone else’s feet – but you’re not touching mine!  I have to go to the foot doctor this Friday, which has been my biggest excuse for not letting anyone see my tootsies.

Doesn't it look like fun?

My favorite part is polishing and doing nail art – of course, we’re an O-P-I nail salon, so we some pretty great colors.

So far it is pretty basic.  Nothing too complicated, except the terminology.  There are lots of -chosis, hypo-, and other weird medical terms we are learning.

Mr. Maurice is turning out to be an alright instructor after all, I think we all just needed a good adjustment period.

People are getting upset because Regency is getting “back to the basics” and reinforcing the school’s dress code which seemed to have gotten a little lax lately.  Students are frustrated because they aren’t allowed to have their cell phones in class, but if Trena were here – they’d be sent home, not just asked to put them away.  I, for one, am glad they are getting stricter.  It was really getting frustrating watching people get away with the equivalent of  murder in the classrooms.  We actually had 2 students fall asleep – ASLEEP in class.  They were talked to later after being woken up, but umm.. yeah… I’d like to sleep too, but I’m not paying the money I am to sleep away my education.  If I’m that tired, I’ll just stay home thanks.

SOOO to update you on my progress so far – we’ve been schedule 297 hours, of which I’ve attended 295.77.  Almost perfect (it bugs the beegeesus out of me).  which, that hour or so that i’m missing is from a cumulation of minutes from the first 3 weeks of school when i was still getting used to clocking in and out.

Also, I get “introduced” to the Performance Floor on March 27 – WHOOOO HOOO.  As a part-time student, I will be able to take clients from 5:30 to 9:oo p.m. Monday through Thursday and then have our Rehearsal / Theory hours from 8-5 on Saturdays.

I got an explanation of this directly from Corporate last week and it makes a LOT of sense.  Daytime students will be on their floor rotations on Saturdays, so the floor WILL be open, however, Saturdays are when we as part – time students will be doing theory.  It just means we have to train our clients a little better to come in during the evening hours, after work, instead of having to a) leave work early or b) waste your Saturday waiting in a salon.  Totally doable.  If they tried to put daytime AND evening students on the floor on Saturdays, there wouldn’t be enough room.  There are 26 stations on the floor, so for a full day-time class of 30 students, that put 26 on the floor, two in the dispensary and two at the front desk… thus, part time students will need to be in the class room on those days.

I don’t think this will affect my goals of attaining Master Student Designer or the Star Rewards Program…

Also, we’ve gotten the “Go-Ahead” to start our Student Council.  YAY!  I am having a conference call with the campus manager and corporate later today to discuss the details and get the ball rolling.  YAYAYAYAYAYAAA  I can’t tell you all how excited I am to finally get this thing off the ground!

Of course, I’ll keep you posted – but its easier if you subscribe 🙂

Here’s a fun quote i’ll leave you with:

“You can tell a lot from a person’s nails. When a life starts to unravel, they’re among the first to go.”
